National Bank’s net foreign assets down 6.6% in Jan 2021 to $6.798bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $6.798 billion in January 2021 against January 1, 2021, down 6.6%, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets reduced following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 7.1% in Jan 2021 to $7.1 billion and a 11.6% decrease in foreign liabilities to $723.8 million as of Feb 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.425bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of Feb 1, 2021 (down 1.4% since early 2021), deposits – $2.351bn (down 17.9%), credits – $947.2m (down 1.6%), securities (except shares) – $788.2m (up 0.04%), foreign exchange – $9.5m (down 1.1%), other assets – $1,100 against $2,300 as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $167.5m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of Feb 1, 2021 (down 33.5% since early 2021), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $25.7m (down 28.7%), other liabilities – $530.6m (down 0.1%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decresed by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
