National Bank’s net foreign assets down 3.5% in Jan-Mar 2021 to $6.936bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $6.936 billion as of Apr 1, 2021, down 3.5% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets reduced following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 11.5% in Jan-Mar 2021 to $7.165 billion and a 12.5% decrease in foreign liabilities to $708.9 million as of Apr 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.156bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of Apr 1, 2021 (up 35.6% since early 2021), deposits – $2.377bn (down 48.7%), credits – $876.4bn (up 8.1%), securities (except shares) – $746.4m (up 3.9 times), foreign exchange – $9.4m (down 74%), other assets – $0.04m against $0 as of Jan 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $339.8m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of Apr 1, 2021 (down 33.3% since early 2021), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $21.4m (down 56.5%), other liabilities – $525.2m (up 26.3%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
