MTS deploys IoT network in Belarus in towns with 50,000+ population

MTS, a Belarus-based telecommunications operator and digital services provider, has deployed an NB-IoT network in Minsk, regional centres and towns with a population of over 50,000 people. NB-IoT network connection is available in 43 cities and 165 towns of Belarus, the company’s press service said. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTS has been developing a proprietary NB-IoT network in Belarus since 2017. As part of pilot projects, meters for remote monitoring of gas consumption have been installed at gas supply facilities in Minsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Grodno, Brest and the Brest region. The Internet of Things is also helping to meter water and electricity usage in Minsk, Gomel, Brest and Grodno. </p> <p> </p> <p> Together with the BelOMO Holding Company, a manufacturer of Belarusian optoelectronic instrumentation, MTS has started joint production of gas meters with the possibility of remote data monitoring using NB-IoT technology. A pilot project for remote monitoring of basic health indicators of cows was implemented in one of the agricultural enterprises of Vitebsk Oblast with the help of smart collars with built-in sensors connected to the NB-IoT network by MTS. An electric scooter sharing service in Minsk is connected to the NB-IoT solution. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTS was registered in Belarus on April 4, 2002. The operator is a joint venture between Russia’s largest mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) and Belarus’ Beltelecom operator. The companies hold respective stakes of 49% and 51% in the joint venture. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTS Belarus started providing GSM 900/1800 standard services on June 27, 2002; launched 3G revenue service in May 2010 and 4G revenue service in December 2015.
