Mogilevkhimvolokno to conduct second stage of production upgrade worth €100m in 2021-2025

OAO Mogilevkhimvolokno (Mogilev Chemical Fibre Plant) will implement a second stage of production upgrade during 2021-2025 by means of implementing standalone projects worth a total of €80-100 million. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Yuri Nazarov made a statement to this effect during a visit to OAO Mogilevkhimvolokno on March 10, the company's corporate newspaper “Trudovaya Slava” reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> During the tour, they brought Nazarov up to date on the Polyester Production project, which is currently being implemented. Originally, they had planned to fully implement this project by Nov 2020. The project provided for the construction of technologically related productions of polyethylene terephthalate, polyester fibre, nonwoven materials, a solid-phase dopolycondensation unit and technical yarn production. The first phase of production upgrade was completed at the end of 2018, when Mogilevkhimvolokno started production of polyester fibre by direct moulding at a cost of around €45 million. </p> <p> </p> <p> This project is good for optimizing the costs of Mogilevkhimvolokno, it will cut the cost of the finished product, which will make the company more competitive, the newspaper quotes Nazarov as saying. </p> <p> </p> <p> Mogilevkhimvolokno and Belneftekhim (Belarus’ state petrochemical industries concern) are considering the possibility of implementing the second phase of production upgrade of the enterprise in the form of standalone projects scheduled for 2021-2025, with €80-100 million to be invested in total. At the same time, the strategic goal is to replace high-cost technologies of dimethyl terephthalate polyester production and switch to polyesters production from terephthalic acid. </p> <p> </p> <p> Pilot projects will include the upgrade of technical yarn production, which will be launched in April 2021, as well as creation of a new production line for technical yarn. </p> <p> </p> <p> Founded in 1965, Mogilevkhimvolokno was incorporated in 2003. The state owns 90.53% of the authorized capital. Mogilevkhimvolokno produces over 100 types of industrial products, including dimethyl terephthalate, polyester PET granulate, polyester fibers and yarns.
