Mishustin invites Lukashenko to get to know Russian tax solutions for merging together tax systems of Russia and Belarus

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has invited Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to get familiar with Russian tax solutions intended to facilitate the integration of the tax systems of the two countries “without any incorporation”. </p> <p> </p> <p> During the meeting with Lukashenko in Minsk, Mishustin, who headed the Federal Tax Service before his appointment as prime minister, noted that he knew the tax and customs officials of Belarus and called them real professionals. At the same time he underlined that “today we have to see how our systems can be integrated”. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the press service of the Belarusian president, Lukashenko noted that Mishustin came to Minsk on instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin to consider “one of our most important problems”. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said: “I am very glad to see you in Belarus. Our meeting today and your negotiations with the Belarusian government were prompted by the proposal Vladimir Putin made when we met in Sochi [on Feb 22, 2021] and discussed a number of problems. And we encountered the problem that we will mainly pay attention to (it is not all the problems we have)”. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, earlier, Russia proposed a transition to a single tax digital platform. In the first half of 2020, the Tax Ministry of Belarus spoke against the transition to a single digital tax platform with Russia, pointing at dependence on the conscientiousness of Russian entities when fulfilling obligations to ensure unhindered access to information systems of regulatory bodies and business entities of Belarus, and the possibility of technical blocking of “unwanted” Belarusian market players. However, after a meeting with Mishustin in autumn 2020, Lukashenko suggested that Minister of Taxes and Levies Sergey Nalivaiko "should take a closer look" at the issue of switching to a single tax digital platform with the Russian Federation.
