Minsk so far unfamiliar with U.S. statements on renewal of sanctions against Belarus’ petrochemical enterprises - Krutoy

Belarusian authorities have not analyzed the statements by the U.S. Department of State concerning the probability of renewing sanctions against petrochemical enterprises of Belarus, deputy chief of the Lukashenko Administration Dmitry Krutoy said on April 2. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, on March 31, 2021, Spokesman for the US Department of State, Ned Price, said that the U.S. would re-impose suspended sanctions against nine Belarusian companies, part of the state concern Belneftekhim, starting from April 26. The sanctions were imposed in 2006 for violations by the Belarusian authorities of the Iranian sanctions regime and political repression inside the country. Since October 2015, restrictive measures against Belarusian companies have been partially suspended due to progress in the area of human rights, in particular, the release of all political prisoners. </p> <p> </p> <p> “These are fresh statements, and we have not studied them in depth. I understand that our colleagues (the US authorities – editor’s note) have a deadline. Usually in March-April they consider such decisions. We will study this situation at the governmental level. Some things will be reported to the president if necessary. There will definitely be some response measures in case this threat becomes some kind of reality," Prime reports citing Krutoy as saying.
