Minsk, Moscow reconcile plans to create common energy markets

The energy ministries of Belarus and Russia have reconciled action plans to implement the Union State programme to establish common markets of gas and electricity, said Belarus’ Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The main objective of these documents is to create a level playing field for business entities,” the Respublika newspaper reports citing Karankevich as saying. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, an interstate agreement on the establishment of a unified electricity market is currently in the works. Formats of collaboration, terms of interaction for electricity sellers and buyers, and infrastructure development matters are under discussion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The parties are also collaborating within the framework of the Union State nuclear energy program. The first steps to implement it were taken when an intergovernmental agreement on the transportation of nuclear materials was signed. </p> <p> </p> <p> The preparation of a draft intergovernmental agreement on the management of spent nuclear fuel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is underway.
