Lukashenko instructs Trade Union Federation to monitor prices and quality of housing and utility services

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko instructs the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) to continue monitoring prices in the consumer market and the quality of housing and utility services. He spoke about this on November 10, 2020 at the meeting with FTUB Chairman Mikhail Orda, the presidential press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> The president wants prices of some dozen commodities of primary need for ordinary people controlled. “No talks about the market or democracy. Market and democracy, they say! All countries, not only in Europe, but also America have shown their democracy. Therefore, the interests of the people, our toilers, must be a cornerstone of our policy,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said that the situation with the housing and utilities was under control when it comes to tariffs. “But the quality still needs attention. Services in particular will always come first in opinion surveys,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, inflation in Belarus was at 0.6% in October 2020; 5.4% in January-October 2020. Prices rose in October 2020 by 6.2% year on year; by 5.3% y/y in January-October 2020. End </p>
