Lukashenko expects Belarus to export $5-6bn worth of farm products in 2020
<p> MINSK, Oct 23 - PrimePress. Belarus will export agricultural products worth $5-6 billion in 2020. Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko made a statement to this effect on October 23 during his working trip to Slootsk District, Minsk Oblast. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, only 10-15% of farm products go to the warehouses, while the rest gets swiftly exported, so the country will be self-sufficient with foodstuffs and will end up the year with $5-6 billion worth of proceeds from exports of agricultural products. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko drew attention to the importance of exporting agricultural products. In his words, the demand for certain products, especially sugar, is quite high. Russia, which had a large deficit of sugar, is eyeing Belarus, and sugar prices are up, said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Lukashenko, over 10.3 million tonnes of grain has been harvested in Belarus, including 8.5 million tonnes of cereals, corn and colza. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The task of the mayor of Minsk and the governors is to distribute vegetables and potatoes in such a way that prices will not jump in winter and will be enough before a new harvest,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> At the same time, he said, there is no ban on sales of imported products. “Let a person have a choice. We do not prohibit the sale of Egyptian or any other apple. Please, sell it. But make sure there is a good Belarus-grown apple lying next to it. Look, there will be very serious control over prices all through the winter. MPs and trade unions have been instructed so. And they have taken this problem very seriously. But you have to look, you have to hold [retail] trade in your hands,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Belarusian authorities plan to increase exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs by 4.2% year on year in 2020 to $5.729 billion.
