Lukashenko backs project to create Minsk City Technopark on bicycle plant site
<p> MINSK, 5 Mar - PrimePress. Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko has supported the idea to establish Minsk City Technopark on the territory where Motovelozavod LLC and Motovelo OJSC are located. He said this during a visit to their production site on March 5, Lukashenko’s press service said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> "As a possible option for the use of the territory there has been discussed the placement of Minsk City Technology Park. At the moment a significant part of the Motovelo territory is not used. Some of the buildings are dilapidated and require repair and reconstruction, and sometimes demolition. Of the remaining premises one half is used for production, including Motovelo facilities, and the other half for logistics and services. After all the work on the site has been completed, the share of production space is expected to rise to 70%, logistics and service providers to 20% and another 10% is planned for the public realm. There are also plans to locate here the State Agricultural Industry Corporation, organize a single marketing centre for the shops of the Ministry of Industry," the statement said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko basically supported the suggestions. In his words, the motorbike factory should focus on production of import substitution products to maximize the local content of motorbike production. In his words, for such enterprises certain benefits can be envisaged. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko pointed out that a presidential decree should specify certain benefits and clear conditions for those who will work at this site in the future. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko gave instructions to expand the product line of Motovelo, including the production of electric cars. He stressed the need to protect the Belarusian bicycle manufacturer in its market. It now accounts for about a third of the bicycle market in Belarus, but Lukashenko instructed to increase the share up to 50-60%. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in February 2021, Lukashenko instructed to develop a business plan for the development of Motovelozavod with a payback period of five years. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2007, Belarus sold a 99.72% share in Motovelo to ATEC Holding (Austria), which undertook to maintain the company’s core business, as well as to invest at least $20 million in its development. In January 2017, Minsk City’s Frunzenski District Court found one of the owners of Motovelo Alexander Muravyev guilty under the articles "fraud", "embezzlement" and "tax evasion" and sentenced him to 11 years in prison with confiscation of property. The shares in the plant were returned to the state. Nikolai Ladutko, former head of the Minsk state administration, was appointed to manage the company in June 2015. In 2018, the Minsk Economic Court declared Motovelo bankrupt. End </p>
