Lithuania may encourage Latvia and Poland to impose reciprocal restrictions on Belarusian motor carriers
<p> MINSK, Aug 16 - PrimePress. Lithuania, Latvia and Poland may agree on imposing reciprocal restrictions in relation to Belarusian motor carriers, in particular, mandatory use of navigation seals. Linava - the National Association of Lithuanian Carriers has submitted a relevant application to the government, as well as the relevant committee of the Seimas of Lithuania, reports rubaltic.ru. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, starting 30 August 2021, cargo trucks will be able to enter Belarus from Lithuania only with navigation equipment (special seals) to track the movement of vehicles. This decision is enshrined in the government resolution #439 of 28 July 2021 published on the National Legal Internet Portal. </p> <p> </p> <p> Vehicles transporting goods from Russia’s Kaliningrad Region to Belarus through the territory of Lithuania in the framework of the customs transit are an exception. Also, navigation seals may not be used by heavy-weight or large-size vehicles that require a special permit to pass through. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Belarus is doing everything to make the situation more difficult for Lithuania. With the loss of logistics competitiveness, not only road transport will bypass Lithuania, but ships will start choosing Polish and Latvian ports,” said Linava Association Secretary General Zenonas Bujvydas. </p> <p> </p> <p> In this regard, Linava has sent an appeal to the government and a number of Lithuanian ministries, as well as the relevant committee of the Seimas, suggesting that the authorities, together with Latvia and Poland, take similar measures against Belarusian carriers.
