Indirect taxes in EEU mutual e-commerce to be paid in country of consumption
<p> MINSK, Oct 13 - PrimePress. Belarus has supported the proposal of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) to charge indirect taxes, in particular VAT, in cross-border electronic trade of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in the country where the goods are consumed. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko made a statement to this effect at a meeting with Ruslan Beketayev, member of the EEC Board (Minister) for Economy and Financial Policy on 13 October. </p> <p> </p> <p> Petrishenko said (as reported by BelTA): “At the EEC Council meeting on 5 October we discussed indirect taxes in cross-border electronic trade in goods. This topic is highly relevant. We have settled the issue related to charging VAT on services, but we also have to complete the rules regulating electronic trade in goods in our integration association in order to prevent any gray schemes”. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) on 5 October 2021 suggested levying indirect taxes in mutual electronic trade within the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia) according to the country-of-destination principle. The proposal is aimed at avoiding double taxation. The EEC will coordinate the proposal with the governments of the EEU countries; the first discussion of this innovation at the level of vice prime ministers of the EEU countries is expected in the first quarter of 2022.
