EEU to work out collective response to external sanctions – Golovchenko

At the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held on February 5, 2021, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) was instructed to work out a mechanism for joint response of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) to external sanctions, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said on Belarus-1 TV channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus made a proposal on the procedure for collective measures to withstand economic pressure put on a EEU member state. </p> <p> </p> <p> “It’s no secret that sanctions are now applied incoherently. They have become a tool that is used at random, without legitimate reasons, just as a stick. Therefore, the EEU will work out mechanisms to counteract such unfriendly acts against one of the Union members. The Eurasian Economic Commission has been instructed to do that,” Golovchenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “It is good that our partners hear us and understand that, since we are a bloc, a union, pressure on one of the Union members should be regarded as pressure on the entire organization,” said the prime minister. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the European Union imposed three packages of sanctions on a group of Belarusian officials and companies, namely Beltechexport, Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant VOLAT, Dana Holdings run by Serbian businessmen, and Synesis IT company. The EU said more sanctions against Belarus will follow unless the situation in the country improves. End </p>
