<p> MINSK, Sep 27 - PrimePress. The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) plans to develop industrial, scientific and technical cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy. The formats of such cooperation were discussed at the meeting of Minister of Industry and Agro-industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Artak Kamalyan and Nikolay Kuleshov, Scientific Supervisor of the Federal Centre for Collective Use “Hydrogen Energy and Electrochemical Technologies” (Russia), as the EEC press service reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Kamalyan, the growth of the hydrogen market in the EEC is primarily facilitated by the need to reduce CO2 emissions to meet the obligations of the Paris Agreement, meeting transport fuel needs in connection with the phasing out of internal combustion engines, the course on decarbonization of basic industries. “These factors are directly linked to the global climate agenda, which is why the development of the hydrogen industry for our countries is of key importance today,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Hydrogen Council estimates that the current global demand for hydrogen is about 116 million tonnes per year. Its biggest consumers are oil refining (33% of the total demand), ammonia producers (27%), methanol producers (10%) and metallurgy (3%). At the same time, hydrogen consumption in the world has more than tripled since 1975. </p> <p> </p> <p> Besides, hydrogen is a new energy carrier that can be used for energy storage, storage and delivery in industrial, transport, energy and construction sectors. </p> <p> </p> <p> In this regard, the meeting participants noted that the EEU states should start joint research and development activities to develop projects related to technologies for the production, storage, transportation and application of hydrogen in various industries. </p> <p> </p> <p> In particular, projects to set up joint ventures for the production of electrolysers were considered promising.
