EEU members to set up joint production of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine – EEC
<p> MINSK, Feb 8 - PrimePress. The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states plan to set up joint production of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, the press office of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC is finalizing an action plan for production of strategically important medicines and pharmaceutical substances for medical purposes in the EEC. Among other things, the draft plan provides for building joint facilities for production of the coronavirus vaccine. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Given the urgency of this task and the initiative to organize joint vaccine production, which was announced at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held on December 11, 2020 in Minsk, the Commission and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) are considering the setup of joint production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in the member states of the Union,” reads the report. </p> <p> </p> <p> In late 2020, the RDIF and the Health Ministry of Kazakhstan organized a transfer of technologies and launched production of the vaccine at the Karaganda pharmaceutical plant, 300,000 doses per month in projected capacity. Kazakhstan plans to produce no less than 2 million doses of Sputnik V. </p> <p> </p> <p> Production of Sputnik V vaccine is scheduled to commence in Belarus in the near future. Agreements have already been signed to cooperate in the production localization. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC expects Armenian and Kyrgyz pharmaceutical manufacturers to join the project.
