EEU countries to prep common gas market deal in 2022 - EEC
<p> MINSK, Oct 20 - PrimePress. Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will prepare an agreement on creating a common gas market in 2022. Iya Malkina, the official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), made a statement to this effect at a briefing on 20 October. </p> <p> </p> <p> “An international treaty on creating a common gas market will be drawn up in 2022 with a particular focus on pricing, the development of exchange trading and ensuring equal access to gas transmission systems,” Malkina said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Malkina noted that at the 14 October 2021 meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC), the heads of the EEU countries agreed to continue discussing the formation of a common gas market because of persisting disagreements, as well as to prepare rules for trade in energy commodities in the EEU in the next three years. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in May 2020, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council approved the Eurasian economic integration strategy for the period to 2025. Armenia and Belarus rejected the gas tariff calculation formula. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in this regard that a common gas tariff formula requires greater integration. Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting on integration processes in the EEU on January 20, 2021 that EEU members had started building the common markets of gas, oil and oil products. </p> <p> </p> <p> In December 2020, the heads of EEU countries approved an action plan on harmonization of the EEU countries' legislation in the oil sector, and also decided to move to the second stage of formation of the common gas market - creation of its infrastructure, technological and legal basis. It was previously planned that the common oil and gas markets in the EEU will start operating on January 1, 2025. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEU is an international economic integration association established on the basis of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, which has been operating since 1 January 2015. The EEU ensures freedom of movement of goods, as well as services, capital and labour, and pursues coordinated, harmonised or unified policies in the sectors of the economy.
