EEC recognizes compulsory range of Belarusian goods in Belarusian shops as trade barrier in EEU internal market

The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) recognized the requirement to maintain a compulsory range of Belarusian-made goods on the shelves of Belarusian retail shops in Belarus as a barrier in the internal market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), EEC press service reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus has been notified about the need to comply with the EEU law. The government of Belarus has been requested to eliminate the violations within 30 calendar days fr om the date of enactment of the decision and to inform the EEC about the measures taken. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, compulsory ranges of have been made for the goods by Belarusian manufacturers. They also include some goods that are not produced in Belarus or are produced in insufficient quantities. Such goods include, among others, instant coffee, tea, cotton swabs, disks and balls, piezolighters for gas cookers, pliers, adjustable wrenches, stain removers, air fresheners, household insect and rodent repellents. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus does not violate its commitments to its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) with regard to the application of compulsory ranges of Belarusian-made goods, says the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> MART notes that the regulation on compulsory ranges of Belarusian-made goods was introduced before the EEU agreement was signed and is aimed at regulating the activities of economic entities providing retail services in the country, as well as at ensuring food security in Belarus and consumers rights to a wide range of goods, including socially important ones, available for sale in retail outlets. This is particularly relevant for trade in rural areas, wh ere customers must have a choice of goods, as there can often be only one shop or auto shop in a settlement. End </p>
