EDB affirms Belarus’ GDP growth forecast for 2021 at 2.1%

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has confirmed its forecast for gross domestic product (GDP) growth in Belarus in 2021 at 2.1% to 2020, the bank said in a brief economic news digest published on 20 Dec. </p> <p> </p> <p> Earlier, on November 25, during the presentation of the 2022 macroeconomic forecast for Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, the EDB experts estimated GDP growth for Belarus in 2021 to be "close to 2%" - thanks to the expansion of external demand and the dynamics of the IT sector. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EDB says that Belarus' GDP grew by 2.3% yoy in January-November 2021 (2.4% yoy in January-October), “the main contribution to the change in annual GDP growth in November compared to October was made by manufacturing and trade”. </p> <p> </p> <p> This is stated in a summary of the EDB's economic news published on December 20. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in its regular Macroeconomic Review published on 20 September, the Eurasian Development Bank upgraded its forecast for the growth of Belarus’ GDP in 2021 by 1.2 percentage points year on year up to 2.5%. </p> <p> </p> <p> The government of Belarus approved a medium-term financial program of the national budget for 2021-2023 under Resolution #227 of April 20, 2012, according to which the Belarusian GDP growth is planned at the level of 1.8% in 2021, 2.9% in 2022 and 3.8% in 2023. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is an international financial institution promoting integration and development in its member countries.
