Comparable oil, gas prices not determinant for single Union State markets – Russian ambassador

The leveling of oil and gas prices is not a determining factor for the formation of single energy markets of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev told RIA Novosti. </p> <p> </p> <p> The single markets are also a matter of common approaches to incentives for gas consumers, indirect taxes, the share of energy costs in the final products, Mezentsev said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The common energy market is not only a close price, but a variety of issues, to which the parties have approached by working on the integration agenda in 2019. It is important to continue this work through professional dialogue on an equal basis,” said Mezentsev. </p> <p> </p> <p> The diplomat said that Belarus and Russia should not seek momentary benefits in this or that segment of the commodity turnover, but pursue long-term benefit policies, given the external sanctions, tension in the food markets and welfare challenges. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on January 20, 2021 that the EEU members (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia) began to form common markets of gas, oil and oil products. He said earlier that a single formula for calculating tariffs for gas and its transportation in the EEU that Armenia and Belarus insisted on required greater integration, which had not yet been achieved. </p> <p> </p> <p> In December 2020, the EEU presidents approved an action plan to harmonize legislation in the oil sector and move to the second stage of the common gas market launch, i.e. the technological, legal and infrastructure matters.
