Belarusian contractors fulfil 55% of total volume of installation works at BelNPP

Belarusian contractors have completed 55% of the total construction and installation work at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP, Astravyets District, Grodno Region), said Nadezhda Zdanevich, Head of the Nuclear Power Plant Technical Support Office of the Belarusian national energy company Belenergo. </p> <p> </p> <p> She released this figure in a presentation at the XXV Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum “Energy EXPO”. </p> <p> </p> <p> "More than 20 Belarusian contractors took part in the implementation of the BelNPP project, which performed 55% of the total construction and installation works, and Belarus resident companies supplied 8% of equipment for the nuclear power plant,” Belenergo’s press service reports citing Zdanevich as saying. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in accordance with the Russia-Belarus intergovernmental agreement on credit financing of the BelNPP construction (signed on 25 November 2011), Russia shall provide Belarus with a targeted state export credit in the amount of up to $10 billion, which will finance 90% of the NPP construction contract. The Belarusian side has pledged to advance 10% of the contract amount (in dollars or Russian rubles). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ first nuclear power plant in Ostrovets (a town in the Grodno Oblast also referred to as Astravyets) will have two units with a combined capacity of up to 2,400 megawatts. The AES-2006 Russian standard design of (generation 3+) was chosen for its construction. Rosatom’s division Atomstroyexport acts as the general contractor for the NPP construction. The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant RUE is the project customer and the future operator of the NPP. The ceremony of the official launch of the NPP took place in early November 2020. The first power unit of the NPP was put into commercial operation on 10 June 2021, the second power unit – due in H1 2022. End </p> <p> </p>
