Belarus’ stock market turnover up 1.4% in Jan-Sep 2021 to Br20.031bn

Belarus’ stock market turnover (transactions with shares and bonds, including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) grew by 1.4% year on year in Jan-Sep 2021 to Br20.031 billion ($7.874 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the Finance Ministry of Belarus said in an online report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of equity transactions in Jan-Sep 2021 totalled Br441.39 million ($173.52 million), down 57.6% year on year. This includes transactions with shares of open joint-stock companies worth Br29.061 million ($11.42 million), down 74.4%; transactions with shares of closed joint-stock companies – Br115.984 million ($45.6 million), down 82%; other transactions with shares – Br296.345 million ($116.5 million), down 65.7%. The ministry does not provide details regarding the deals and the companies involved. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Oct 1, 2021, the number of issuers of shares stood at 4,033 (down 2.4% yr on yr). All in all, there were 4,102 issues of shares (down 2.3%) in circulation to the tune of Br41.537 billion ($16.329 billion), up 9%. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of bond transactions stood at Br19.589 billion ($7.7 billion), up 4.7% yr on yr. This includes sales and purchases of bonds worth Br15.512 billion ($6.1 billion), up 19.2% yr on yr; REPO transactions – Br3.429 billion ($1.348 million), down 37.7%; and other bond transactions – Br648.649 million ($255 million), up 3.24 times. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sales and purchases accounted for the bulk of bond transactions (79.2%). The largest volume of sales and purchases in Jan-Sep 2021 was made with bank bonds – Br10.159 billion ($4 billion, up 39.9% yr on yr). Bond transactions by companies (including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) – Br2.955 billion ($1.162 million, down 5.3%), government securities – Br2.391 billion ($940 billion, up 2.6%), bonds of the National Bank – Br3.621 million ($1.424 million, down 97.2%) and bonds of local loans – Br3.55 million ($1.4 million, down 97.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The total number of bond issuers as of Oct 1, 2021 reached 274 (up 1.1%). There were 1,019 bond issues (up 8.2%) worth Br34.257 billion ($13.467 billion, up 4.8%) in circulation as of Oct 1, 2021, including Br bonds worth Br14.869 billion ($5.85 billion, up 12.6% yr on yr), USD bonds worth Br12.775 billion ($5.022 billion, up 8.2%), EUR bonds worth Br5.874 billion ($2.309 billion, down 10.5%), RUB bonds worth Br738.014 million ($290.123 million, up 32.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Securities Department of the Ministry of Finance of Belarus, the total volume of transactions with shares and bonds in 2020 amounted to Br28.104 billion ($11.048 billion), down 5.6% yr on yr.
