Belarus’ stock market turnover up 1.2% in H1 2021 to Br13.278bn

Belarus’ stock market turnover (transactions with shares and bonds, including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) grew by 1.2% year on year in Jan-Jun 2021 to Br13.278 billion ($5.28 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the Finance Ministry of Belarus said in an online report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of equity transactions in H1 2021 totalled Br194.373 million ($77.29 million), down 78.9% year on year. This includes transactions with shares of open joint-stock companies worth Br19.153 million ($7.62 million), down 80.8%; transactions with shares of closed joint-stock companies – Br107.622 million ($42.8 million), up 4.46%; other transactions with shares – Br67.558 million ($26.86 million), down 91.5%. The ministry does not provide details regarding the deals and the companies involved. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of July 1, 2021, the number of issuers of shares stood at 4,042 (down 3.3% yr on yr). All in all, there were 4,111 issues of shares (down 3.3%) in circulation to the tune of Br40.936 billion ($16.28 billion), up 8%. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of bond transactions stood at Br13.084 billion ($5.2 billion), up 7.2% yr on yr. This includes sales and purchases of bonds worth Br10.451 billion ($4.16 billion), up 26.1% yr on yr; REPO transactions – Br2.223 billion ($884 million), down 37.9%; and other bond transactions – Br410.201 million ($163.11 million), up 22.4%. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sales and purchases accounted for the bulk of bond transactions (79.9%). The largest volume of sales and purchases in H1 2021 was made with bank bonds – Br6.572 billion ($2.6 billion, up 43.2% yr on yr). Bond transactions by companies (including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) – Br2.198 billion ($874 million, up 5.8%), government securities – Br1.675 billion ($666.1 billion, up 19.6%), bonds of the National Bank – Br3.621 million ($1.44 million, down 95.7%) and bonds of local loans – Br3.474 million ($1.38 million, down 97.5%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The total number of bond issuers as of July 1, 2021 reached 270 (up 0.7%). There were 953 bond issues (down 0.3%) worth Br33.414 billion ($13.29 billion, up 5.7%) in circulation as of July 1, 2021, including Br bonds worth Br13.731 billion ($5.46 billion, up 2.1% yr on yr), USD bonds worth Br12.994 billion ($5.17 billion, up 17%), EUR bonds worth Br6.001 billion ($2.39 billion, up 2.1%), RUB bonds worth Br687.812 million ($273.51 million, up 40.5%). </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Securities Department of the Ministry of Finance of Belarus, the total volume of transactions with shares and bonds in 2020 amounted to Br28.104 billion ($11.18 billion), down 5.6% yr on yr.
