Belarus, Russia plan to launch common electric energy market Jan 1, 2024
MINSK, Jul 8 - PrimePress. Belarus and Russia intend to launch a common electricity market of the Union State in two stages: from January 1, 2024 through trade between authorized organizations, and from January 1, 2027 with the transition to greater integration in the electricity sector, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said after his meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Viktor Karankevich on July 8 in Moscow, the Energy Ministry of Russia reports.<br> <br> The Union program (formerly known as roadmap) on the common electricity market has been signed and approved by both governments, says the Russian minister.<br> <br> “In accordance with the program, the unified electric energy market of the Union State will start operating on January 1, 2024 through trade between authorized organizations, and from January 1, 2027 with the transition to a greater integration in the electric energy sector,” the press office of the Russian Energy Ministry quotes Shulginov as saying.<br> <br> As previously reported, the common electric energy market is being formed by all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia). Belarus and Russia first intend to start a common energy market on a bilateral basis as part of integration programs. End<br> <br>
