Belarus’ reserve assets to exceed $6 billion by year end - Kallaur

Belarus’ gold and foreign exchange reserves will exceed $6 billion in 2021, which will be harmonious with the monetary policy targets, Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Pavel Kallaur told a press conference on April 15. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Gold and foreign currency reserves amounted to $6.9 billion on April 1. At the end of the year, taking into account the projected receipts and payments, we estimate that they will be more than $6 billion,” BelTA reports citing Kallaur as saying. In his words, this will cover about two months of imports of goods and services. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ gold and foreign exchange reserves calculated in accordance with methods of the International Monetary Fund totalled $6.94 billion as of Apr 1, 2021, down 2.5% month on month. In accordance with the 2021 guidelines for Belarus’ monetary management policy, Belarus’ gold and foreign exchange reserves were supposed to reach at least $6 billion as of Jan 1, 2022. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ international reserves stood at $9.394bn as of Jan 1, 2021, down 20.5% year on year.
