Belarus reports $2.328bn foreign trade surplus in Jan-Aug 2021

Belarus’ surplus in foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to $2.328 billion in Jan-Aug 2021 compared with a $1.231 billion surplus in Jan-Aug 2020, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> The foreign trade turnover of goods and services increased in Jan-Aug 2021 by 30.6% year on year to $58.482 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities and services increased in Jan-Aug 2021 by 32.2% year on year to $30.405 billion; imports were up 28.9% to $28.077 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit of foreign trade in commodities amounted to $576.1 million in Jan-Aug 2021 to compare with a $1.249 billion deficit in Jan-Aug 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities (in FOB prices) were up 36.2% y/y in Jan-Aug 2021 to $23.87 billion, imports increased by 30.2% to $24.446 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus of foreign trade in services amounted to $2.904 billion in Jan-Aug 2021 against a $2.48 billion surplus in Jan-Aug 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of services increased in Jan-Aug 2021 by 19.2% year on year to $6.535 billion; imports were up 20.9% to $3.631 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ foreign trade surplus stood at $1.922 billion in 2020. The turnover of foreign trade in goods and services totalled $72.242 billion; exports – $37.082 billion; imports – $35.16 billion. Export of goods (in FOB prices) amounted to $28.257 billion in 2020, imports – $30.226 billion; export of services – $8.825 billion; imports of services – $4.934 billion. End </p>
