Belarus ready for dairy labeling in EEU – Agriculture Ministry

Belarus is ready to begin labeling of dairy products in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on schedule, as agreed with the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Alexei Bogdanov, head of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, told reporters on February 8, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC Council scheduled in December 2020 three phases of mandatory labeling in the EEU and a list of goods that are subject to identification marking. The plan is to begin labeling cheese, ice cream and food ice with or without cocoa from June 1, 2021; dairy products (milk, cream, yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, butter) with a shelf life of over 40 days from September 1, 2021; dairy products with a shelf life of up to 40 days inclusive from December 1, 2021. A number of products, such as baby food for children under three years of age, do not need labeling, and neither do stocks on hand. </p> <p> </p> <p> Each EEU member state will independently set the dates for the start of labeling in accordance with the directive issued by the EEC Council. The Russian government has already approved (in December 2020) new dates for the start of mandatory labeling of dairy products: cheese and ice cream – June 1, 2021; dairy products with a shelf life of over 40 days – September 1, 2021; products with a shelf life of up to 40 days inclusive – December 1, 2021.
