Belarus proposes to introduce uniform taxation rules for e-commerce in EEU

Belarus proposes to introduce uniform taxation rules for Internet trade in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), in particular, for the payment of value added tax (VAT), Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoy said in an interview broadcast on Belarus 1 TV channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus proposes to charge VAT on goods bought by Belarusians fr om foreign online shops starting from July 2022, according to the draft Tax Code. According to the Ministry of Finance of Belarus, this measure would secure an additional Br40 million ($15.718 million at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in budget revenues. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus plans to discuss the possibility of expanding the practice to cover the entire the Eurasian Union. “There should be a single regulation. We are not asking for something extra for ourselves - we say: let the rules of the game be the same for everyone,” Krutoy said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The e-commerce segment has become too important: it is already 6% of the total turnover. No country will allow it to be in the “grey” zone and not pay taxes. VAT is too significant for the revenue side of the Belarusian budget – it’s 40%,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The main foreign online marketplaces wh ere Belarusians shop are Wildberries, Lamoda, Ozon, Joom, AliExpress, Amazon, etc. Some of them are developing their pickup points in Belarus, some of them cooperate with Belarusian logistics companies. At present, the ordering of goods from Belarus in Russian marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon is actually carried out on Russian domains, i.e. the purchase takes place in Russia. End </p> <p> </p>
