Belarus prioritizes 5G tech deployment in 2021-2025 - state programme
<p> MINSK, Feb 5 - PrimePress. The deployment of fifth generation (5G) cellular mobile telecommunication networks in Belarus and implementation of smart home and smart city technology solutions on their basis is one of the priorities of national information and communication infrastructure development in 2021-2025. </p> <p> </p> <p> This is provided by the state program "Digital Development of Belarus" for 2021-2025, approved by government resolution #66 of 2 February 2021, published on the National Legal Internet Portal on Feb 5. </p> <p> </p> <p> The document says the priority areas of the subprogramme of digital development infrastructure are further development of fixed broadband Internet access (broadband) on the basis of multi-service networks of telecommunications and construction of infrastructure using fiber-optic lines, the development of wireless broadband access based on mobile LTE (4G) technology; further development of cloud technologies to provide on-demand access to necessary information and computing services. </p> <p> </p> <p> Financial support for the activities of the state program will be implemented from the public budget, including the republican fund of universal communication and information services, as well as from the own funds of the implementers of activities and the loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. </p> <p> </p> <p> It will take Br3.727 billion ($1.414 billion at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus) to implement the state program, including Br494.13 million ($187.4 million, $1 = 2.6364 Belarusian rubles) from the state budget and Br12.715 million ($4.823 million) from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan.
