Belarus plans to import 300 million kWh of electricity from Russia in September 2021, the Energy Ministry of Belarus said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> “In September Belarus intends to import from Russia a total of about 300 million kWh of electricity,” the report says. </p> <p> </p> <p> Electricity imports are economically justified and based on economic viability, the ministry said. “Belarus imports Russian electricity as an additional measure to ensure reliable power supply ahead of the autumn-winter period. Energy consumption has already increased in Belarus a bit due to falling air temperatures. Electricity is imported depending on its economic advisability and electricity import in this case is economically advisable,” the ministry said. </p> <p> </p> <p> There are no plans to import Russian electricity in October, the Belarusian Energy Ministry said. </p> <p> In recent years Belarus has almost not been importing electric energy. Belarus purchases a small amount of electric energy from Russia and Ukraine as part of agreements for the provision of mutual emergency assistance, and for energy supplies to near-border localities. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ state-run energy concern Belenergo increased electricity production in January-June 2021 by 10.1% year on year to 18.41 billion kWh.
