Belarus Ministry of Energy plans to attract $18m loan to finance Minsk FEZ power supply project

The Ministry of Energy of Belarus intends to raise $18 million by tender for construction of the 110/10 kV Cherkassy substation (Dzerzhinsk District, Minsk Oblast) with a 110 kV high-voltage line to supply power to the Fanipol Section of the Free Economic Zone (FEZ) Minsk. This information is posted on the website of the Ministry of Energy. </p> <p> </p> <p> The project to build the Cherkassy substation is planned to be implemented within the next three years in order to ensure reliable power supply to consumers of the Free Economic Zone Minsk, says the Ministry of Energy. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Ministry of Energy of Belarus planned to hold talks with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on a loan of €14.11 million in 2020-2022 to develop the electrical supply network in the Free Economic Zone (SEZ) Minsk in compliance with government resolution No.336 of June 11, 2020. The ministry had planned to take the loan for 15 years to finance the construction of the 110/10 kV Cherkasy substation with high-voltage 110 kV lines for power supply to section 10 in the Fanipol District of the Free Economic Zone Minsk. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in Nov 2020 the EBRD suspended funding of public sector projects in Belarus amid the domestic political crisis, which unfolded in the country after the Aug 2020 presidential election and the western sanctions that followed the violent repression of dissent. At the same time, EBRD resources will still remain available for infrastructure projects with the state that were approved before the modification of the bank's approach to the public sector, as well as private businesses.
