Belarus’ mining industry increases output in 0.1% in H1 2021 to Br823.4 million

Belarus’ mining industry increased output by 0.1% year on year in January-June 2021 to Br823.4 million ($326.435 million at the rate of National Bank of Belarus), according to the National Statistics Committee (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> In Belarus, stocks of mining products as of 1 July 2021 amounted to Br22.2 million ($8.801 million, $1 - Br2.5224), or 11.9% of the average monthly output. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belstat stopped publishing monthly operational data on a number of commodity items in the context of the EEU FEACN codes, which are subject to either sectoral or individual sanctions of the European Union (EU) and the United States. </p> <p> </p> <p> In particular, section V. “Mineral products” and section VI. “Products of Chemical and Related Industries”. These sections contained information on exports and imports of oil and oil products and mineral fertilizers, which appeared on the sanctions lists. </p> <p> </p> <p> In addition, section VII. “Plastics and articles thereof; Rubber, rubber and articles thereof”; Section XVI. “Machinery, equipment and mechanisms; electrical equipment; parts thereof; sound recording and sound reproducing apparatus, equipment for the recording and reproduction of television images and sound, and parts and accessories thereof”; section XVII. “Means of land transport, aircraft, watercrafts and transport-related devices and equipment”. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Belstat data portal provides information on the data included in these sections of the EEU FEACN only for January-April 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belstat noted that the current policy on disseminating official information stipulates that the statistical authority of any state determines which data to publish. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, on 24 June 2021, the EU Council imposed sanctions on seven sectors of the Belarusian economy, including restrictions on the import and transit of potash from Belarus under contracts signed after 25 June 2021. The restrictions apply only to potash with a nutrient content (potash K2O) of less than 40% and over 62% (technical potash - used in metallurgical, chemical and petrochemical industries). Potassium fertilizers with a nutrient content of 40% to 62%, the most popular potassium fertilizers in the world, are not yet subject to import ban. End </p> <p> </p>
