Belarus’ insurance cos collect Br298.4m in premiums in Jan-Feb 2021, up 17.8%/yr

Belarusian insurance companies increased collection of direct and co-insurance premiums by 17.8% on the year in January-February 2021 to 298.4 million Belarusian rubles (Br) ($113.038 million at the NBB rate), the Belarusian Finance Ministry said in a release. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of mandatory insurance policies sold in Jan-Feb 2021 stands at Br76.74 million ($29.07m), up 0.5% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of voluntary insurance policies sold in Jan-Feb 2021 stands at Br221.64 million ($83.96 million), up 25.2% on the year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Voluntary insurance accounts for 74.3% of total revenues in Jan-Feb 2021 (69.9% in Jan-Feb 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> State-owned insurance companies Belgosstrakh collected Br72.25 million ($27.5 million) in Jan-Feb 2021, which makes up 41.3% of the total amount of insurance premiums. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian insurers paid out Br164.4 million ($62.277 million) in compensations in Jan-Feb 2021, up 30.5% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The compensation to premium ratio reached 55.1% in Jan-Feb 2021, compared with 49.7% in Jan-Feb 2020. Belgosstrakh and Beleximgarant account for 41.5% of the total value of compensation payments. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Mar 1, 2021, there were 16 insurers in Belarus.
