Belarus’ insurance cos collect Br163.4m in premiums in Jan 2021, up 13.4%/yr

Belarusian insurance companies increased collection of direct and co-insurance premiums by 13.4% on the year in January 2021 to 163.4 million Belarusian rubles (Br) ($62.13 million at the NBB rate), the Belarusian Finance Ministry said in a release. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of mandatory insurance policies sold in Jan 2021 stands at Br35.8 million ($13.6m), up 2% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of voluntary insurance policies sold in Jan 2021 stands at Br127.6 million ($48.5 million), up 17.7% on the year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Voluntary insurance accounts for 78.1% of total revenues in Jan 2021 (74.7% in Jan 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> State-owned insurance companies Belgosstrakh and Beleximgarant together collected Br72.25 million ($27.5 million) in Jan 2021, which makes up 44.2% of the total amount of insurance premiums. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian insurers paid out Br75.3million ($28.6 million) in compensations in Jan 2021, up 18% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The compensation to premium ratio reached 46.1% in Jan 2021, compared with 44.3% in Jan 2020. Belgosstrakh and Beleximgarant account for 41.5% of the total value of compensation payments. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Feb 1, 2021, there were 16 insurers in Belarus.
