Belarus industry loses over $1 billion in 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic - Ministry of Industry

Belarus’ industry lost more than US$ 1 billion in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic due to restrictions on the movement of goods and the disruption of export and import contracts. </p> <p> </p> <p> First Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Sergey Gunko made a statement to this effect at the international economic forum "CIS - 30 Years" held by videoconference on March 11. </p> <p> </p> <p> “According to our estimates, Belarus’ industry losses from the coveted situation in 2020 amounted to slightly over $1 billion due to the problems associated with the introduction of restrictions on the movement of goods and the failure of contracts,” BelTA reports citing Gunko as saying. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Belstat, Belarus reduced industrial output by 0.7% year on year in 2020 to Br116.5 billion ($44.725 billion at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus). Production of coke and refined petroleum products decreased by 10.8% to Br13.454 billion ($5.165 billion, $1 - Br2.6048), metallurgy and fabricated metal products - by 9.1% to Br7.52 billion ($2.886 billion). The revenues of industrial organizations in 2020 increased by 3.5% year on year to Br125.87 billion ($48.322 billion), while net profit of the industry decreased by 43.7% to Br3.14 billion ($1.205 billion). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of January 1, 2021, industrial enterprises' stocks of finished goods amounted to Br5.075 billion ($1.948 billion), or 65.3% of the average monthly industrial output against 66.3% as of January 1, 2020.
