Belarus’ govt wants Belneftekhim to diversify raw material supplies, expecting import substitution – Golovchenko

The government of Belarus expects Belneftekhim to diversify supplies of raw materials and substitute imports to the greatest extent possible, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said at the session of the Council of Ministers Presidium on December 1, 2020 held to consider updating the petrochemical industry development strategy for the period to 2030, the government’s press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The task of the updated strategy is to identify points of growth in the petrochemical industry, diversification of supplies of raw materials and products, and to maximize import substitution to reduce the dependence on the external environment, the impact of which, in fact, requires changes to Belneftekhim’s entire policy in the forecast period,” Golovchenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The 2019 strategy failed to utilize the potential of private high-tech and small-tonnage enterprises and potash fertilizer producers, who can pursue a flexible industrial policy and produce innovative products,” said Golovchenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ petrochemical industry numbers around 1,600 organizations with 83,000 employees (10% of all those employed in industrial production).
