Belarus’ foreign debt up 0.11% in Apr 2021 to $19.818bn
<p> MINSK, Jun 1 – PrimePress. Belarus’ state foreign debt grew by 0.11% month on month in April 2021 to U.S. $19.818 billion as of May 1, 2021 by the International Monetary Fund’s Special Data Dissemination Standards, reads a report posted on the website of the Finance Ministry. </p> <p> </p> <p> The government’s long-term debt accounted for 91.48% of the total foreign debt in Apr 2021 (91.58% in Mar 2021), the government’s short-term debt for 0% (0%), and foreign loans to companies’ against the government’s security for 8.52% (8.42%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The Finance Ministry says Belarus took out external public loans in the amount of $183 million in Jan-Apr 2021 and transferred $637.9 million to redeem external liabilities. </p> <p> </p> <p> This includes $123.2m loaned from the Russian government ($272.7m repaid in Jan-Apr) and $49.6m borrowed from the International Reconstruction and Development Bank (IBRD, $59.3m), $8.3m from the China Export-Import Bank, $1.9m from the European Reconstruction and Development Bank (EBRD) and the Nordic Investment Bank ($3.2m repaid). </p> <p> </p> <p> Also in Jan-Apr 2021, Belarus paid $112.1m to the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), $700,000 – to the US Commodity Credit Corporation. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ external public debt grew by 9.56% yoy in 2020 to $20.271bn as of Jan 1, 2021, according to IMF SDDS.
