Belarus EconMin challenged to sustain GDP growth at 2019 level
<p> MINSK, May 14 - PrimePress. The task of the Economy Ministry of Belarus is to keep the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020 at the level of 2019, Economy Minister Alexander Cherviakov said on May 14. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We already have preliminary data on economic performance in April – the GDP is down 1.3% year on year. According to our estimates, the negative dynamics will remain this month, which is due to the effect of the pandemic, but from July the Ministry of Economy expects the beginning of recovery growth. This will be helped by the reviving markets of our trading partners. For the year as a whole, our task is to prevent a year-on-year decline in the GDP," Cherviakov said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ GDP grew by 1.2% in 2019 and amounted to Br131.952 billion ($53.94 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) with the official forecast of 4% growth. In 2020, the Belarusian authorities predicted a 2.8% GDP growth. In Jan-Mar 2020 Belarus’ GDP decreased by 0.3% yoy to Br30.212 billion ($12.35 billion, $1 - Br2.4463). End </p> <p> </p>
