Belarus’ cargo transportation volume down 6.8% in 2020 to 398.678m tonnes

Belarus’ volume of cargo transportation by all types of transport decreased in January-December 2020 by 6.8% year on year to 398.678 million tonnes, Belarus’ National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation by rail in 2020 totalled 124.957 million tonnes, down 14.1% year on year. The transit freight traffic amounted to 26.3 million tonnes, down 32.9%. Crude oil and oil products, construction cargoes, chemical and mineral fertilizers, and timber cargoes prevailed in transportation by rail. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation of goods by road decreased in 2020 by 1.2% to 159.785 million tonnes; through pipelines – down 6% to 111.208 million tonnes; by air – up 12.1% to 31,600 tonnes. </p> <p> </p> <p> The export of transportation services in freight terms in 2020 amounted to $2.888 billion, down 2.4% year on year; import – $1.39 billion, down 0.8%.
