Belarus boasts lowest unemployment rate among EEU countries, according to ILO methodology

Belarus has the lowest level of unemployment among the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia) by the methodology of the International Labour Organization (ILO). This is stated in the findings of a spot survey published by the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). </p> <p> </p> <p> For instance, according to the ILO methodology, in Q1 2021, the unemployment rate in the EEU averaged 5.6% of the workforce: Armenia - 17.0%, Belarus - 4.0% (Q2 2021), Kazakhstan - 4.9%, Kyrgyzstan - 5.8% (for the whole year 2020), Russia - 5.6% </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the EEC, as of 1 July 2021, the number of the unemployed registered with the employment services of the EEU countries was 1.55 million people, or 1.7% of the total workforce. Compared to the same measure in 2020, their number had dropped by 50.2% and was roughly the same as in April 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the methodology of the International Labour Organisation, the unemployed are persons who have no gainful employment, are actively looking for a job and are willing to start working in the near future at the working age. In Belarus it is persons 15-74 years old, in Armenia - 15-75 years old, in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia - 15 years and older. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC notes that from 1 July 2021, a unified digital platform for job search “Jobs Without Borders” was launched in the EEU. The aim of the project is to ensure the interaction of labour markets within the EEU and to extend the functionality of national information systems by adding CV and job search capabilities across the EEU countries.
