Belarus banks’ profits up 90% in Jan-May 2021 to Br654.2m

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to Br654.2 million as of Jun 1, 2021, or U.S. $258.37 million at the official rate of the central bank, up 90% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br13.242 billion ($5.23bn) as of June 1, 2021, up 8.3% year to date and 17.5% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.5% as of June 1, 2021, to compare with 17.2% as of Jan 1, 2021 and 16.9% as of June 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 10.9% as of June 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Jan 1, 2021 (10.1% as of June 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br90.189 billion ($35.62bn) as of June 1, 2021, down 0.4% year to date (up 4.7% year on year). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.4% as of June 1, 2021 (1.1% as of Jan 1, 2021; 1.4% as of June 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of June 1, 2021, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) amounted to Br3.557 billion ($1.4bn), up 2.9% year to date and 3.7% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk reduced by 2% year to date in Jan-June 2021 to Br4.662 billion ($1.84bn) as of June 1, 2021, up 7.8% year on year.
