Belarus banks’ profits down 21.3% in Jan-Sep 2020 to Br710.2m

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to 710.2 million Belarusian rubles (Br) in January-September 2020, or U.S. $269.5 million at the official rate of the central bank, down 22% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br11.591 billion ($4.399bn) as of October 1, 2020, up 5.9% year on year (up 3.8% from January 1, 2019). </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 16.4% as of Oct 1, 2020, to compare with 17.8% as of Jan 1, 2020, 18.5% as of Oct 1, 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 8.8% as of Oct 1, 2020, to compare with 10.9% as of Jan 1, 2020 and 11.2% as of Oct 1, 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br89.544 billion ($33.98bn) as of Oct 1, 2020, up 18.4% year on year (up 14.3% from Jan 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.1% as of Oct 1, 2020 (1.5% as of Jan 1, 2020), to compare with 1.6% as of Oct 1, 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Oct 1, 2020, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) stood at Br3.442 billion ($1.306bn), up 26.2% from Jan 1, 2020, up 20.6% from Oct 1, 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk grew by 26.4% in Jan-Sep 2020 to Br4.624 billion ($1.755bn) as of Oct 1, 2020, (up 32.7% year on year).
