Net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions amounted to minus U.S. $3.418 billion as of August 1, 2020, down 7.9% in Jan-Jul 2020, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Net foreign assets of commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions decreased by 10.4% in Jan-Jul 2020 to $1.658 billion, while foreign liabilities of banks grew by 1.2% to $5.076 billion as of Aug 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deposits accounted for $992.7 million of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ net foreign assets (up 14% against Jan 1, 2020), credits - $94.2m (down 75.2%), foreign exchange - $461.7m (up 22.2%), securities (except shares) - $52.2m (down 62.1%), other assets - $57.2m (down 32.3%). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $4.383bn of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ external liabilities as of Aug 1, 2020 (up 1% against Jan 1, 2020), deposits - $643.3m (down 2.3%), securities (except shares) - $0.00 compared with $0.00 as of Jan 1, 2020, other liabilities - $49.5m (up 150%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2019, net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions reduced by 24.1% to minus $3.168 billion as of January 1, 2019.
