Belarus banks’ net foreign assets down 10.4% to minus $3.26bn in Jan-Nov 2021

Net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions amounted to minus $3.26 billion as of Dec 1, 2021, down 10.4% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Net foreign assets of commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions increased by 35.6% in Jan-Nov 2021 to $2.054 billion, while foreign liabilities of banks grew by 3.2% to $5.314 billion as of Dec 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Dec 1, 2021 deposits accounted for $1.334 billion of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ net foreign assets (up 54.5% year to date), credits – $66.46m (down 5.1%), foreign exchange – $510.25m (up 6.2%), securities (except shares) – $49.375m (up 2.9%), other assets – $94.352m (up 1.78 times). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $4.755bn of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ external liabilities as of Dec 1, 2021 (up 4.9% year to date), deposits – $529.89m (down 9.4%), securities (except shares) – $0.00 compared with $0.00 as of Jan 1, 2021, other liabilities - $28.989m (down 17.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions reduced by 14.8% to minus $3.637 billion as of January 1, 2021.
