Belarus banks’ net foreign assets down 0.47% to minus $3.62bn in Jan-Sep 2021

Net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions amounted to minus $3.62 billion as of Oct 1, 2021, down 0.47% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Net foreign assets of commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions increased by 11.28% in Jan-Sep 2021 to $1.686 billion, while foreign liabilities of banks grew by 3% to $5.306 billion as of Oct 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Oct 1, 2021 deposits accounted for $924.97 million of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ net foreign assets (up 7.15% year to date), credits – $88.88m (up 26.97%), foreign exchange – $531.5m (up 10.6%), securities (except shares) – $48.06m (up 0.12%), other assets – $93.29m (up 76%). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $4.723bn of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ external liabilities as of Oct 1, 2021 (up 4.2% year to date), deposits – $552.99m (down 5.4%), securities (except shares) – $0.00 compared with $0.00 as of Jan 1, 2021, other liabilities - $30.55m (down 12.97%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions reduced by 14.8% to minus $3.637 billion as of January 1, 2021.
