Net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions amounted to minus U.S. $3.632 billion as of February 1, 2020, down 0.1% in January 2021, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Net foreign assets of commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions increased by 14.5% in Jan 2021 to $1.735 billion, while foreign liabilities of banks grew by 4.2% to $5.367 billion as of Feb 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deposits accounted for $926.7 million of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ net foreign assets (up 7.4% against Jan 1, 2021), credits – $271.4m (up 290%), foreign exchange – $430.7m (down 10.4%), securities (except shares) – $48m (down 0.03%), other assets – $58m (up 9.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $4.655bn of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ external liabilities as of Feb 1, 2021 (up 2.7% against Jan 1, 2021), deposits – $681.2m (down 16.5%), securities (except shares) – $0.00 compared with $0.00 as of Jan 1, 2021, other liabilities - $31.4m (down 10.5%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions reduced by 14.8% to minus $3.637 billion as of January 1, 2021.
