Belarus’ authorities launch criminal inquiry against TUT.BY Media staff for tax evasion
<p> MINSK, 18 May - PrimePress. On May 18, the Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee (SCC) of Belarus has launched a criminal inquiry against staff representatives of TUT.BY Media Ltd. on suspicion of committing a criminal offence described in Article 243 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (large-scale tax evasion), the press service of the State Control Committee said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> “TUT.BY Media Ltd. received the status of a resident of the Hi-Tech Park (HTP) in 2019. According to the Financial Investigations Department, the company has received revenue not attributable to the activities permitted for HTP residents. This was reported to the Hi-Tech Park Administration. Based on the information provided by the Financial Investigations Department about the violations committed by the company, the HTP Supervisory Board on May 18, 2021 decided to strip TUT.BY Media of the tax benefits provided in accordance with presidential ordinance #12 of September 22, 2005 “On Hi-Tech Park,” reads the statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the SCC, as a result of the unwarranted use of the state support as an HTP resident, TUT.BY Media Ltd. caused large-scale damage to the state. </p> <p> </p> <p> The investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances and persons involved in the unlawful activities, reads the statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> Officers of the Financial Investigation Department on May 18 conducted searches at the headquarters and regional offices of Belarus’ largest news portal TUT.BY, as well as the companies hoster.by and av.by, associated with TUT.BY Media. The Ministry of Information of Belarus decided to restrict access to the Internet resource TUT.BY and its copies on the basis of the notification of the General Prosecutor’s Office about the discovery of violations of the law on mass media in terms of posting information on behalf of the unregistered foundation BYSOL.
