Belarus’ annual inflation slows down to 8.5% in Mar 2021

Annual inflation in Belarus slowed down to 8.5% in Mar 2021, reads the monthly inflation review released by the National Bank of Belarus (NBB). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, inflation in Belarus was 0.7% in Mar 2020, Jan-Mar – 3.8%. </p> <p> </p> <p> Consumer prices rose in Mar 2021 by 8.5% year on year (8.7% yoy in Feb 2021; 7.7% y/y in Jan 2021). </p> <p> </p> <p> Core inflation increased to 8.2% in Mar 2020; 8.3% yoy in Feb 2021; 7.5% y/y in Jan 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The increase in administered prices and tariffs accelerated to 8.7% in Mar 2021; 8.5% yoy in Feb 2021; 7.3% y/y in Jan 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Seasonal prices (fruit and vegetables) increased by 12.8% year on year in Mar 2021 to compare with 15.9% yoy in Feb 2021, and 12.5% yoy in Jan 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The year-on-year aggregate trend inflation rate was at 6.7% yoy in Mar 2021, 5.9% yoy in Jan 2021 and 6.5% in Feb 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> In March 2021, the maximum and minimum growth rates of free prices and tariffs in annual terms were, in particular, minus 4.6% as regards hotel services; +0.1% - wheat flour; +2.8% - dry goods; +2.8% - milk and dairy products; +15.7% - jewellery; +16.7% - eggs; +16.9% - bicycles and motorbikes; +17.5% - oil and fats; +20.6% - mayonnaise. </p> <p> </p> <p> The maximum and minimum annual growth rates of regulated prices and tariffs in March 2021 were, in particular, +2% for higher education services; +3% for fuels and lubricants; +11% for personal transport insurance services; +11.4% for tobacco products; +11.8% for car maintenance services; +13.1% for regulated passenger transport services; +22.8% for pharmaceuticals.
