Belarus’ Agriculture Ministry forecasts grain output of 8.545m tonnes in 2021

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus expects grain output of 8.545 million tonnes in 2021, the ministry reports on its website. </p> <p> </p> <p> Feed grain output is forecasted at 6.57 million tonnes; potato – 1.1 million tonnes; sugar beet – 5 million tonnes; flax – 180,000 tonnes; oil seed rape – 714,000 tonnes; vegetables – 625,000 tonnes; fruits and berries – 170,000 tonnes. </p> <p> </p> <p> The area under winter crops totals 1.849 million hectares (up 1.7% from 2020), including winter rye – 370,100 ha (up +0.1%); wheat – 613,400 ha (up 7.4%); triticale – 438,200 ha (down 4.1%); barley – 31,800 ha (up 77.6%); winter cruciferous crops for grain – 395,300 ha (down 1.9%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The spring sowing area is planned at 2.358 million hectares (up 1.1% from 2020), including 742,600 hectares for early spring grains and leguminous crops (down 4.7%); grain legumes – 313,400 hectares (down 10.5%); maize – 271,300 ha (up 12.2%); buckwheat – 31,000 ha (up 160%); millet – 7,500 ha (down 8.5%); spring oil seed rape – 34,100 ha (down 27.8%); flax – 49,600 ha (up 1.2%); sugar beet – 97,000 ha (up 6%); potato – 25,200 ha (up 16.1%); vegetables – 6,000 ha (up 33.3%); maize for silage – 838,000 ha (up 2.1%); one-year lay – 256,100 ha (up 1.5%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus harvested 8.77 million tonnes of cereals and leguminous crops (up 19.6% from 2019); potato – 5.231 million tonnes (down 14.3%); vegetables – 1.751 million tonnes (down 5.6%); sugar beet – 4.011 million tonnes (down 18.9%); rapeseed – 731,300 tonnes (up 26.5%); flax fiber – 47,800 tonnes (up 3.3%).
