All-Belarusian People’s Assembly to work out mechanisms for resolution of economic problems – Lukashenko

At the meeting held on October 27, 2020, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly was expected to work out effective mechanisms to resolve problems that hinder economic growth, and sum up the results of national socioeconomic development over the past five years, the presidential press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> He also wants the status of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly to be formalized in the Constitution. </p> <p> </p> <p> “This form of “people’s creativity” must be made constitutional, not to meet requests of some particular person. This is not about personalities. I have heard proposals on this point from different dialogue venues, by the way. I support this, but it is up to the people to decide,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said that the future of the state is to be decided during the Assembly. </p> <p> </p> <p> “I have said more than once and I repeat that everything (the Constitution and the issues to be addressed) will be decided by the Belarusian people alone. These are not hollow words. This is my vow. As the end of my presidential life approaches, I guarantee that everything will be decided by the people,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is a regular event held once in five years. Attending the event are representatives of the authorities, enterprises a, scientists and artists from all regions of the country. The delegates usually praise the authorities for successes of the previous five years, and determine the main areas and targets of national development for the next five years. The first Assembly was held in 1996. Lukashenko’s first constitutional reform was approved, and his powers expanded greatly.
