About 10% of Russia’s imports and 1% of its exports go through Belarus-Polish border - Centre for Strategic Research

About 10% of Russia’s import and 1% of its export in volume terms pass through the Belarusian-Polish border, the Centre for Strategic Research (CSR) told RIA Novosti. </p> <p> </p> <p> On 11 November, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko recommended the EU to think about the transit of gas and cargo through the country before imposing sanctions against Minsk. He noted that the Yamal-Europe gas export pipeline runs through the country, with the volume of gas transit fr om Russia to the West having recently increased significantly. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Major foreign trade shipments of goods to Central and Western European countries, including remote regions of Germany, France, and Italy, which are important trading partners, are carried out via Belarus and Poland. About 10% of all Russian imports (in physical terms), and about 1% of exports pass through Belarus and Poland. More than 90% of imports across the Polish-Belarusian border are transported by road, and about 75% of exports are transported by rail,” the CSR said. </p> <p> </p> <p> One of the main trans-European road transport corridors passes through Belarus and Poland: Berlin-Warsaw-Brest-Minsk-Smolensk-Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod as well as a similar rail transport corridor. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) will gather on November 15 to discuss possible new sanctions against Belarus and as well as measures against countries from wh ere migrants go on their pilgrimage to Europe.
